DATING STANDARDS

Respectful HSV dating starts with clear boundaries.

These are the standards we recommend bringing to a new connection, from the first introduction to the decision to continue or stop.

Represent yourself honestly

This website is intended for adults aged 18 and older. Be truthful about age, relationship intentions and identity. Do not use someone else’s photographs or turn an uncertain relationship status into a misleading promise.

Shared HSV context does not settle the conversation

Do not infer someone’s diagnosis, health history or boundaries from the place you met. Discuss relevant sexual-health information before sexual contact and give each person room for an informed choice. The conversation guide deals with timing and wording.

Ask before taking the next step

  • A reply does not promise continued contact.
  • A meeting does not promise physical affection.
  • Paying for tickets or making a long journey does not purchase someone’s time afterward.
  • A private disclosure does not grant permission to share it.

Permission can change. Accept a request to slow down or leave without demanding that the person justify it with private information.

End without punishment

If you do not want to continue, a clear and respectful message can be enough. Avoid insults, health-related ridicule, repeated contact after a refusal, or attempts to expose someone. You are allowed to feel disappointed without making the other person responsible for reversing the decision.

For practical responses to pressure or threats, use the safety guide. For handling information appropriately, read privacy and discretion. These pages address what to do, while this page sets out the behavior a respectful connection should allow.
